Max Planck Research Group “Epistemes of Modern Acoustics,” Director:

 is offering

 
one Research Scholar (postdoctoral) position 

 
for two years, tenable from January 1, 2017.

Candidates should hold a doctorate
in the history of science or related field at the time the position begins,
and
be able to show evidence of scholarly excellence in the form of initial
international publications.

Research projects may concern any
cultural context throughout the modern era (including the present).
Although
projects must have a history-of-science component, both the human and
natural
sciences are included under that rubric, and additional relevant
disciplinary
perspectives are welcome. 

Research projects within one of the
following two main areas are sought: 


—The genealogy of acoustic
knowledge in the modern era
    
—Sonic strategies of knowledge
production in the modern era

The Max Planck Institute for the
History of Science is an international and interdisciplinary research
institute
(www.mpiwg-berlin.mpg.de/en/index.html). The working language is English;
it is
expected that candidates will be able to present their own work and discuss
that of others fluently in that language. Applications may be submitted in
German, English, or French. 

The position is primarily devoted to
research, with no teaching and with minor administrative duties for the
Research Group. Remuneration is based on the TVöD-Bund pay scales (E13, or
up
to E14 depending on qualifications).
