Nevertheless, important results have been obtained, especially in number theory. This thesis should investigate more particularly the transcultural history of demonstrative discourses following the transmission and translation of Western mathematical knowledge in China, focusing on a specific field, such as the geometry of conics. Applicants must hold an above-average MA (or equivalent) in mathematics, history of mathematics, or sinology and prove advanced skills in Chinese (both classical and modern). The deadlines for applications are: - 24 May 2018 (Letter of motivation and CV to andrea.breard@u-psud.fr) - 29 May 2018 (online application).
