In these areas, it hosts research projects, trains doctoral students and brings together CNRS researchers and faculty of Sorbonne Université. Job description and main activities Job description: The PALIMEDES project aims to apply multispectral imagery technology to the decipherment of the underlying text of a palimpsest manuscript (Veneranda Biblioteca Ambrosiana, L 99 sup.) in ancient Greek with astronomical and mathematical content, including a treatise on gnomonics by Claudius Ptolemy. The postdoctoral researcher will use his excellent philological and paleographical skills to lay the groundwork of deciphering the manuscript and to serve as the interface between the various participants in the project. Main tasks: - Decipherment of multispectral images. - Selection of processed multispectral images for optimal legibility. - Use of microfilms and notes by earlier scholars to further the decipherment. - Autoptic examination of the manuscript. - Coordination with partner institutions in Northern Italy. - Coordination with participants in the project. - Organization of workshops/conferences. - Online publication of raw and processed images in compliance with the International Image Interoperability Framework. - Publication of final proceedings. Skills: - Excellent ability in Greek paleography. - Excellent knowledge of Greek (and Latin) philology. - Knowledge of ancient Greek mathematics is appreciated. - Familiarity with digital humanities is appreciated.
