LARSIM group at CEA-Saclay will hire a postdoctoral researcher to work with
Dr. Alexei Grinbaum on the EU project “TechEthos: Ethics of Technologies
with High Socio-Economic Impact”.

 

Beginning January 2021, TechEthos will address the growing ethical
challenges and expectations vis-à-vis new technologies to ensure the
highest ethical standards at the EU and international levels. The project
will identify several technologies in different fields (e.g., in advanced
manufacturing, advanced materials, biotechnologies or digital technologies)
that may raise particularly challenging ethical issues, analyze them, and
refine frameworks, guidelines and codes to enable effective governance.
Work will be conducted in intense collaboration with a lively international
consortium involving partners from SIENNA and other similar EU projects.

 

Job description:

Identify existing and potential future ethical issues regarding selected
technologies, as well as principles and values that may be affected or
challenged by these technologies and their impacts, using a combination of
reflective research work, literature review, and stakeholder interviews.
Adapt methods to the identified technologies via thoughtful review of
current and prospective science. Prepare a report providing detailed
analysis of ethical issues.

 

Requirements:

PhD in philosophy of science, ethics, sociology of science, science and
technology studies, innovation studies or a related area. Track record of
research publications in English. Skills in working across disciplines and
an interest in science and technology governance.

Fluent oral and written English is mandatory. French is not mandatory but a
plus.

 

Details:

The position is expected to be filled between April and September 2021.

Duration 18 months, with a possible 6-month extension.

The candidate will work on the CEA Orme des Merisiers campus 20 km south of
Paris. Transportation to and from Paris is easy and subsidized.
